New Berlin was once the capital of a thriving interstellar empire. After losing a war lasting centuries every major city was bombarded from orbit. When that was determined to not be enough of a punishment for the New Berliners actions, the poles were nuked. The catastrophic flood and loss of life that followed is known as "The Great Drowning". Now all that remains are mutant seaweed and crickets.
